Google: the heroes of the Winter Olympics

For me, Google are the heroes of the Winter Olympics.

To commemorate the opening of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, the search engine did what the International Olympic Committee did not: they read the Olympic charter.

I do think that politics and sport should mix because through this process many injustices can be exposed and hopefully, overturned.

I’m not an Olympic ‘basher’ by any stretch.

I’m loving watching the games but I’m also loving that Google made this stand against a prejudice that is based in ignorance.

The Greek team, with their rainbows on their wrists, also deserve a mention for those making a statement about archaic views towards people’s sexuality.

I just hope that in the very near future, actions like these will no longer be necessary.
